Solving Cross-Border Rail Delays
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has inaugurated the Patrick J. Ottensmeyer International Railway Bridge, spanning the Rio Grande. As the second cross-border rail bridge on this key trade route, it will boost freight efficiency and streamline supply chains.
Previously, trains had to wait up to four hours due to single-track crossings. The new bridge allows two-way traffic, cutting delays and enhancing trade speed and reliability for industries like manufacturing, automotive, and agriculture.
$100M Investment for Faster Logistics
The $100 million, 1,170-foot (356m) bridge features a ballasted deck girder structure and six reinforced concrete piers, ensuring high-capacity freight movement. It will ease port congestion and create more stable logistics routes for U.S.-Mexico trade.
Stronger Border Security, Smoother Trade
Equipped with X-ray railcar scanners and high-precision surveillance, the bridge enhances security and speeds up customs clearance, ensuring safer and faster cross-border shipments.
Boosting North American Trade Competitiveness
This major upgrade strengthens U.S.-Mexico rail capacity, attracting more businesses to rail logistics. It also lays the foundation for future cross-border rail investments, reinforcing North America’s supply chain resilience.
